Description: This presentation will provide an overview of current practices for diagnosing personality disorders, explore criticisms of these practices, and discuss the intersection of various personality disorder diagnoses with eating disorders. Implications for best clinical treatment practices and treatment options will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss current mechanisms for classifying and diagnosing personality disorders according to DSM-5-TR criteria.
- Describe the intersection of various personality disorders with different eating disorder diagnoses.
- Identify how comorbid personality disorders impact clinical presentations, vulnerability factors, and treatment in adults with eating disorders.
- Apply evidence-based assessment tools and therapeutic modalities for diagnosing and treating individuals with eating disorders and comorbid personality disorders, including applications in clinical practice.
About the speaker:
Kyla Bennett, LCSW, LSCSW
Clinical Manager, EDCare Kansas City
Kyla Bennett is a licensed clinical social worker in the states of Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri. Kyla graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Bachelor’s Degrees in Psychology and Gender and Women’s Studies. Kyla earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2016. She went on to complete a post-MSW fellowship at the University of California-Berkeley, where she served on the eating disorder treatment team at the campus health center.
Kyla first began working with eating disorders in 2015. She joined the EDCare Kansas City team in 2017 and has enjoyed working in a number of roles here, including primary therapist, admissions/utilization review, and most recently, program manager. Kyla has experience working with individuals with eating disorders and their families in both individual and group settings within residential, PHP/IOP, and outpatient levels of care.
Kyla strives to challenge and support clients as they work towards renegotiating a healthy relationship with food and establishing a life worth living. She enjoys clinically supervising therapists seeking independent licensure and providing education to the next generation of social workers as an adjunct at the University of Kansas.
Continuing Education Information:
CE credits will be available for psychologists and mental health professionals. Qualified participants who attend the full live virtual session will receive a certificate of attendance for one (1) clock hour. Please note:
- Full attendance is required; no partial credit will be awarded.
- CE credit is only available for live attendance. Watching a recording does not qualify.
- Participants are responsible for verifying with their state licensing boards whether CE credits will be accepted for their specific discipline.
