What We Do:
Make eating disorders a public health priority…change societal attitudes…encourage people to get help…promote healthy body image…mobilize support

The Eating Disorder Foundation is comprised of 100% volunteers who want to influence and promote public awareness and concern for the detection, prevention, treatment and elimination of eating disorders. We want to creatively develop campaigns that remove the social stigma, secrecy and silence upon which this illness thrives. Through education and advocacy, we want to dispel misconceptions and challenge people’s thinking. We want to support people who seek help (and reach out to those too afraid to do so) . . . for themselves, family members and friends. We will work with them to identify appropriate treatment options, and will continue to be a supportive resource throughout treatment and recovery. An extensive library of up-to-date information about eating disorders will be maintained, as well as a directory of treatment providers and support groups.

The Foundation will develop and employ education programs as a primary focus within schools, sports/dance/fitness centers, community groups and the medical communities. We want to promote a realistic and healthy body image that is essential to good health and a quality life. For those who feel strongly about the “marketed norms” of our culture as being fictional and even harmful, we want to provide a voice. We want to reinforce the concept that this illness is not a choice; it is about feelings, not food. Our approach to our services will always be that of respect, understanding and kindness.
